About Linguarian
Welcome!
I’ve written this sentence more than ten times now. I don’t know where to start, what to say, or how to say it.
Not a great intro, is it?
It’s not because I don’t have anything to say, but because I want to make it worth your while.
Nobody wants to read about an old man and his passion for languages. While it might be relevant, it doesn’t provide much entertainment. Plus, your time is valuable, and I don’t take that for granted.
So, before you nod off – let me give you a brief introduction.
My name is Olov, and I’m the founder of Linguarian.
A few months ago, I was scouring the Internet for a specific French idiom. That turned out to be a rabbit hole. I found the idiom rather quickly, but I had entered a new world I hadn’t known the depth of until now.
I was hooked.
This little universe of language learning has so much content: YouTube channels, forums, websites, applications, and chat servers.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m not THAT old. I have used several language applications and watched Youtube since its beginning. But now I was really in the thick of it, exploring every room, channel and corner of the Internet to see what’s out there.
It made me happy to see how many people are willing to help and share their knowledge with others.
But I was also struck by the amount of misinformation. I saw so many “influencers” selling dreams and empty promises. Expensive courses claim you can reach fluency within 30 days when using their methods, and paid subscriptions that only offer you autogenerated translations.
This left me with two options:
a.) I can sit back, observe, and be a passive consumer. Let things be, and don’t get involved.
b.) I can do something about it.
The second alternative became my obvious choice.
I can’t stop all these false claims, lies, and misconceptions from floating around cyberspace. It is what it is.
But I can contribute. I can share my knowledge and experience.
And so, Linguarian was born.
I didn’t want to create “just” a website, but a library – a knowledge base for language learners. A place where you get information and insights that aids you in your journey to achieve fluency in your target language.
That’s a big project, but I have the ambition and passion to match it.
To put it simply, Linguarian is me doing my part. My contribution to the world.
However, I am not alone in this. Linguarian is a collective of several freelance journalists who came to the same conclusion as me. People want to bring something to the table and do good.
We all work towards the same goal. We all want to share our knowledge and experiences, instead of just limiting it to a selected few. It’s for everyone and anyone to benefit from.
Phew!
I apologize for the long-winded introduction. I salute you if you pulled all the way through, and thank you for your patience and interest. I hope it answered some of your questions to what Linguarian is and why we are here. If it didn’t, feel free to reach out to us!
With that said, this old man tips his hat and wishes you a great time on your language journey.
